What is smart goal setting? And what is a goal setting system? And can they help you to achieve your goals any faster? Join me as we take a look at how smart goal setting and goal setting systems can help you to reach your goals at lightening speed.

* What Is Smart Goal Setting?
If we think of a goal as a time line, we find that we can put an A point and a B point to the equation. We find that we are at A, and our goal is at B. Now in the science of goal setting and achievement, we can think about this statistically.

You can either don’t succeed or you do succeed. And out of the successes, we find that some of the success stories will achieve their goal sooner than another – even for similar goals, with similar circumstances.

We want to focus on those that achieve success quicker. And the reason is simple, it means smart goal setting. And this is what the smart part is – a way to work smarter not harder to get goals achieved in quicker time.

* What Is A Goal Setting System?
A goal setting system is a framework, which works with all your goals. You can apply it to create projects big or small.

A goal setting system can be your own system or someone else’s. And it should first be tried and tested, and then learned off by heart, so you can always use it.

* Putting Smart Goal Setting To Work With A Goal Setting System
Smart + a system to set goals = major success. The reason is simple, and I will go into the equation.

You see, when you get that smart system, you are ultimately moving forward. But, without a system, you can easily get stuck. Well, when the space shuttle is ‘go for launch’, it goes and goes. There is no stopping it, and no room for procrastination. Instead you are moving forward.

A goal setting system is there to constantly provide you with the framework to keep moving forward. A goal setting system is like the parts of a vehicle, the engine, and the wheels.

Your part is to act as the smart fuel. You take action, and the results work, because you always create goals when problems or obstacles present themselves, and you can move forward at lighting speeds!

Has anyone effectively used the concept of “Life Planning” to provide a framework for goal setting?

Life planning is a concept sometimes used to provide a framework for goal setting. I’m wondering if it is effective or not. Has anyone actually used it successfully? Are there any resources you can recommend?

Answer
Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography is the definitive work on the subject, and he gets to work recounting his experience of life planning and its result directly in Chapter 1: http://www.earlyamerica.com/lives/franklin/

Newage Smart Goal Setting
Feb 7th, 2012 by Russ

Goal setting is important whether it is at work, in management, in sports or even just dealing with our personal commitment. With proper goal setting, it not only helps to realize our dreams, it also constantly serves as a motivation to us and also providing us with a sense of direction of where we should be focusing. Without goal setting and resolution, we would not be able to achieve much in the long run. All successful people are able to set and achieve their own goals which will in turn lead them to achieving higher goal setting.

Year 2007 is coming to an end and it is now time to set new goals/resolution for the year 2008. But before doing so, perhaps we should individually review the goal setting we have set for year 2007 and whether or not we have achieved all our goals. If yes, then my congratulations to you, and do keep up the good work, if not, perhaps we should review and understand the reasons for not being able to achieve our goal set for year 2007.

One of the most common reasons for not being able to realize our own dreams is due to the fact that most people often have the wrong misconception about setting dreams. Dreams are very often too unrealistic and not achievable in reality, for instance just merely dreaming to become a millionaire, dream of losing weight, dream of having a well toned body or even dream of having a condo but without actually properly plan and working hard for it will always be waiting for a dream to come true, where they are just waiting for things to happen and the same dream can remain year after year.

However, with proper planning by using SMART goal setting, we are able to quickly realize our dreams by focusing on both short term and long term goals where we are able to bring out our individual potential to its own limits.

Having a real understanding and being able to recognize our current standard, both our weakness and strength is the most crucial in the initial goal setting phase as we will then be able to realistically set goals which we will be able to realize eventually.

SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. The following are the steps used for setting and realizing our dreams and we will be using Taichi sports to illustrate on the SMART Goal setting procedures.

1. DREAM

2. Breakdown into Goals (Short & Long Term)

3. Breakdown into STEPS

4. Focus on STEPS, seasonal goal will take care of themselves.

BASIC GOAL SETTING

(STEPS)

STEPS Goasl Setting

Goal Setting – Using SMART guideline to help athletes in establishing seasonal goals:

Specific – Goals stated must be specific, behavioral terms, within a given time duration and define standard of success. Plan long term goal follow by mid term goal and finally short term goals to focus on achieving. An example is to achieve kicking above shoulder level in a slow & controlled manner during Taichi routine.

Measurable – Goals must be quantifiable and progress must be measurable. An example is computing the success rate of movement during practices to measure improvement.

Achievable – Goals set must be achievable by athlete’s capability, both physically and mentally.

Realistic – Goals set must be realistic. The above goal set must be realistic with proper training planning by the coach and commitment by the athlete during training.

Timely – Goal set must be timely, that is it must be measurable, realistic and achievable. For example, a time frame of 10 weeks for progress to be seen in the improvement of the above technique is easily achievable by most athletes with proper guidance and commitment during training.

To dream or not to dream?

As a child, I have always been taught to have great dreams. But building castles in the sky has led nowhere. Somewhere along the way, I have discovered that it is not the dream that is important but the actions you take towards a goal. But are all great dreamers destined for failure? Those with high expectations beyond their means are setting themselves up for some degree of failure, are they not? Is the ardent dreamer often too entangled in his dream to really acheive something in real life?

Answer
By all means, dream. It was once said that if you don’t dream, you can never have. Of course by just dreaming, you can never have either. You must work towards you dreams. One step at a time.

It would be true to say that setting high expectations beyond their means is to set yourself up for some degree of failure but i would ask you this: Which successful person or dreamer has never met failure but yet succeeded?

They say success is a poor teacher and there is a chinese proverb that says failure is success‘ mother. So in order to have success, you must first have failure.

The key is to dream and to work towards it. You may fall along the way but remember to learn from your failures and continue on.

Think of it this way as someone once told me: If you want to get a rocket to the moon, you don’t just aim at it and fire away. The only way you can get to the moon is to get the rocket up and every so often make some course adjustment and you will get there. Does is mean you cannot make a mistake? No. It just means that if you make a mistake, just alter your course so that you are back on track again.

Just like your dreams, if you want to get there, start walking and remember to make course adjustment along the way.

Any good books on goal setting?

I’m a 51 years old medical professional that has it almost all.

My life is good. Got a good job, money, friends, etc. My life is “set”

I’ve always been a goal oriented person and lately I have none.

Life is boring and “automatic”.

Are there any good books on goal setting? Or how to deal with my goal setting behavior?

Is it normal for a man to want to have goals? I usually look towards short term goals in the 3-6 months range.

Answer
Any books by Richard Carlson

A goal is a dream in action,with a purpose.Do you believe that?

Some people think that ideas are goals. Not so.A goal is a dream in action, with a purpose. You can not reach a goal if you don”t have one.You can”t hit a target is not there. You”re wasting your time if you don”t have a mark to shoot at.You must have a goal. You don”t go to airport and just buy a ticket to wherever.A ship doesn”t just drift across the ocean.I have read that 95 percent of Americans have no goal in life, pardone me for saying so we are reality level in which we must correct our self for feature generation, so has for them to build a better tomorrow for the nations.Further more 100 percent of those naver achieve them, without goas people have nothing to live for.Why don”t most people set goals?here are some possible reasons:(1)They don”t really have the faith to set them.(2)They don”t know how to dxercise a plan.(3)Some people are just too lazy.(4)Many people think they are too busy.Because they never set them.Thank liadi

Answer
Yes I do believe in that. =)
